Granit Medical Innovations (GMI), a woman owned NY LLC, exclusive owner of 82 medical device patents and patent pending applications, brings its inventions from idea to marketable device. Wholly owned by its founder and sole inventor Dr. Naomi L. Nakao, GMI's primary focus is to deliver to the medical marketplace devices for the fields of interventional endoscopy, minimally invasive surgery, breast surgery, and Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery (NOTES) with a focus on incisionless bariatric surgery. GMI enables capture of significant shares of respective markets because of its sole focus on disruptive technology, delivering entirely new solutions to existing problems.
Essential to GMI's success is Dr. Nakao's broad clinical experience: Associate Professor at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, and Clinical Attending in Gastroenterology at the Beth Israel Medical Center, she is an end user of the medical devices she invents, enabling her to perceive the shortcomings of existing technology. Bringing to the table her 30 year experience with medical innovation, along with daily collaboration with medical manufacturers, she is able to bring to the market new devices sought after in the fields of interventional endoscopy. GMI has collaborated with OEMs in the US, Europe, and the Far East. These companies have provided to GMI development and engineering resources as well as component parts and assembly. Finally, Dr. Nakao's service as Chair of ASGE Invention Innovation for ten years have facilitated valuable collaborations with distinguished colleagues and preeminent medical institutions.
A recipient of the honorary title of Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology and Fellow of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Dr. Nakao has authored fourteen articles in peer reviewed journals.
